September 15 – October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. As part of our Spanish unit this weeks we will do independent study about people and things of Spanish origin.
How many things related to Hispanic Heritage Month can you find in your community? You will need to collect 10 different items from the list below and bring in proof of them on September 25th to share with your classmates and teacher. Then, you will earn a Spanish project grade of 100 for your hard work! You may look in supermarkets, libraries, newspapers, magazines, your neighborhood, and on the Internet for your items. Be sure to take a picture, print the page, or have the written proof to turn in to your teacher! You can put it all together with this sheet.
1. The names of three famous Hispanics (ex. a TV personality, athlete, historical figure, or an author)
2. A person who grew up in a Spanish speaking country that will come and talk to our class on the 19th about how school there was different than school here in the USA.
3. A news article about a country where people speak Spanish
4. The name and address of an organization in your community that uses Spanish
5. A picture or a real fruit that originally came from a Latin American country (banana, tomato, pineapple)
6. A picture or a real vegetable that originally came from a Latin American country (potato, pumpkin, corn)
7. A postage stamp from a Spanish-language country
8. Two state names that come from Spanish
9. Five colors written in Spanish and English
10. A picture of the flag representing a Spanish speaking country
11. Find a recipe for a dish that you can cook and bring in to share with the class on the 25th. (No nuts in the recipe, please!)
12. The name and address of a school in a Spanish speaking country and pictures.
